| Frequently Asked Questions What is “Building God’s Way”? It is a spiritual journey/capital campaign designed to help Saint Matthew fulfill its Christ-given Mission. We want to complete the campus on Wiget Lane with no additional long-term debt. We seek to build facilities that will make us as effective as possible in doing what we believe Jesus is calling us to do. What is the “Ministry of Construction”? We recognize that the “mission field” will be coming on to our campus in the men and women God is going to use to construct these new facilities. We want to meet them, support them, pray for them, feed them, and encourage them to also be faithful followers of Jesus. When will building begin? Construction will begin in the summer of 2007. The buildings will be available for use when our fall programs start in September 2008. How will the funds be raised? The funds will be raised through commitments to a three-year pledge by our Mission Partners and friends during our “Building God’s Way” capital campaign, April 22nd though June 3rd. We are asking everyone who is able to give one-third of their pledge on June 3rd to enable us to forego financing as long as possible. What about the money raised in the last two campaigns? We had about $600K that we put in the bank after the “Taking Wing” campaign (completed in 2003) and added another $1.4 million in the “Journey of a Lifetime” campaign (completed in March 2007). Some monies have been already spent on architects, studies, and past capital campaigns. The total needed is $4.4 million. So this Building God’s Way campaign’s $2.4 million represents the balance needed. Will there be another capital campaign after this? If this campaign is successfully completed, there are no plans for a debt reduction campaign. We spend about 10% of our budget on our existing mortgage ($1.3 million), and it does not hamper our ability to fund our Mission, staff and future programs. Growing churches will always need money. But our plan for expanding our ministry beyond Walnut Creek does not mean we would need to acquire more land or build more buildings. Am I going to be told a dollar amount or be pressured into giving? Absolutely not! The amount that you pledge is between you and God. We are simply asking you to pray, listen to God, and then obey by making a God-honoring pledge. What if we don’t raise the total amount for the new buildings? We believe our congregation is more than capable of raising $2.4 million. If we were to fall short of that amount, we will wrap the difference into our existing financing, which must berestructured by 2012. We could incur some additional debt before it would impact our current ministry. |
