High School Ministry

Our Mission

We exist to reach students, to help them share in God’s word, to care for one another and to offer their lives in service to Christ.

In today’s world there is so much pressure on high school students to achieve, to be busy, to fit in, to succeed, etc.  In high school, the idea of having a personal relationship with Jesus is thought of as irrelevant or unimportant.  Saint Matthew’s High School Ministry is a place for High School students to encounter Jesus, to connect with other students and adults, to have fun, to be authentic, to grow and to become the man or woman God challenges them to be.

Area Bible Study (ABS): Thursday Evening

Thursday: 7PM- 8:30PM (Sept–May)
Age Group: High School
Location: Teen Center & Student Homes once a month (For Current location see Newsletter)

Because of High Schoolers' need for fellowship and time to build relationships with other Christians, we meet midweek for in-depth Bible study and small group time. Each week's ABS includes time together in worship through music. Then we break into smaller groups for Bible study, discussion, prayer and accountability.

Activities

Special events highlight the year for youth at Saint Matthew: the Snow Trip in January, the Mexico Mission trip on spring break, Hume Lake Ponderosa Camp in August, the house boat trip in September and the Love of God (LOG) retreats.

Mexico Mission Trip

The Mexico Mission Trip is a week-long adventure in fellowship, meaningful service, and major fun. These trips are frequently life changing for those who go.

Teens who are part of the Mexico Mission then share their experiences and faith journey with the congregation at the Amigo Sponsor Dinner the week following their return.

Hume Lake
Teens look forward to Hume Lake every year because it's a blast. Ponderosa High School Camp located in the Sierra Mountains ministers to more than10,000 high school students each summer and features high-energy recreation, team competitions, speakers, seminars, amazing worship, personal and group reflection time as well as plenty of free time. Campers can enjoy swimming in the pool, boating in the lake or just hanging out with friends at Hume ‘N Beans or The Chill. More daring students can check out the Skate Park, Paintball Field or take a leap of faith on the High Adventure course. Check it out at Hume Lake Christian Camps.

  LOG

LOG (Love of God) is a teen-led retreat weekend where teens encounter Christ in a real way. After attending, teens are encouraged to become leaders and speakers at subsequent LOG retreats with their peers. Leaders meet weekly to plan and study God's work through teen-developed devotions.
